Compression Therapy Is Proven to Reduce Swelling
Research shows that consistent compression treatment helps improve comfort, mobility, and quality of life for people living with lymphedema.

A multicenter, prospective study published in Journal of Vascular Surgery: Venous and Lymphatic Disorders found that long-term use of an advanced pneumatic compression device at home significantly improved both disease-specific and overall health-related quality of life in patients with lower extremity lymphedema. Over 52 weeks of treatment, patients experienced measurable decreases in limb circumference, fewer episodes of cellulitis, and improvements in skin condition. Compliance with the compression device and traditional elastic stockings remained high throughout the study. These findings provide clinical support that sustained compression therapy can reduce swelling and improve patient outcomes in chronic lymphedema management.
Compression Wraps and Bandages Help Reduce Leg Swelling in Lymphedema
Source: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33270499/
A clinical study compared two types of compression used during active treatment for lower-limb lymphedema: traditional multi-layer bandages and newer adjustable compression wraps. Both treatments helped reduce limb swelling over the course of therapy. Patients wearing the adjustable compression wraps also reported improvements in symptoms and quality of life. This research supports that consistent compression — whether with bandages or adjustable wraps — plays an important role in reducing swelling and improving how people feel during lymphedema treatment.
Compression Therapy Reduces Swelling and Improves Daily Life for Lymphedema Patients
Source: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27608512/
In this clinical study, people with lymphedema received standard compression therapy — including medical bandages and compression garments — as part of their treatment. Over time, participants showed noticeable reductions in limb size, improved tissue health, and better overall comfort. Many also experienced fewer symptoms and were able to take part in daily activities more easily. This research supports that consistent use of compression — a core part of lymphedema care — can effectively reduce swelling and improve quality of life for patients.
